Vaporizers can relieve breathing problems in children as well as adults. It can be particularly handy for colds or the flu. The first thing is fill the water up to the recommended level. If there is no line to indicate this level, fill it up enough so the water is a little higher than the inserted steamer unit. Place the unit on a chair near the bed and plug it in.
You will need to add a pinch of either baking soda or salt. Drop the salt or baking soda in the unit and wait for it to start steaming. As soon as the steam starts jetting out, put your face up in front of the vaporizer and breath in the hot air.
Use your vaporizer according to the symptoms you are experiencing. If you have sinus pressure in your head, breathe the steam through your nose. Try breathing that way for up to 20 minutes, then, if possible, blow your nose to eliminate some of the mucus. If you are having problems with asthma, you should also use the vaporizer on your lungs for twenty minutes. When you are finished, try to cough up any phlegm to help rid the lungs of mucus.
For a more intense session, place a towel over the vaporizer, then move in and place it over your head as well. Be careful and don't burn yourself. The tent effect will maximize the amount of steam you'll get into your sinuses and lungs. Use the tent to direct the steam to which ever area you want. Close your eyes while you are using the vaporizer this way. And do not burn yourself.
Try vaporizing for 20 minutes as you breath in from your nose and mouth. If you have a snuffy nose, breathe in through the nose and try to loosen up the mucus. If your lungs are tight breath mainly through your mouth while under the steam. When you are finished, blow your nose and try to cough up some of the excess plegm.
If your mucus is yellow, there's a good chance you have a cold. Clear represents allergies.
You can also let vaporizers run all night. Close your bedroom door and allow the vaporizer to work like a steam bath. You don't need to be right next to it, but get as close as possible. Be careful not to burn yourself.
